and a small volume production service. MPW Services 
A Multi Project Wafer run allows users to access expensive wafer fab
runs at a fraction of the normal cost, by spreading the cost over many
users. As a result the number of resulting IVs is limited to a few 10s
of pieces.An important factor in choice of MPW provider is the die size available. Unlike most deep sub-micron MPW services, MOSIS allow users to submit designs of any die size, upto a practical limit of the 20mm square reticle. This service is ideal for companies wishing to prototype a design without the otherwise prohibitive cose of a full engineering process run. It is also a good way for companies to try out complex or innovative ideas, that would otherwise only be truly tested on the first engineering run, risking both additional cost and more importantly, timescales.
