Accelerated system-level MEMS development with SoftMEMS
EDA Solutions (Southampton, UK), the exclusive European representative for Tanner EDA and MOSIS multi-project wafer services for IC fabrication, has signed a representation agreement for Germany, the UK, Benelux and the Nordic region with SoftMEMS to market and support its open-platform, system-level design environment, MEMS Pro.

The MEMS Pro environment accelerates development of MEMS devices and incorporates a multi-domain simulator for a variety of electrical and mechanical characteristics including force, deflection, voltage, pressure and fluid dynamics.
It works seamlessly with the Tanner EDA tool suite, including the S-Edit schematic editor and L-Edit layout editor. MEMS Pro enables designer to develop new MEMS designs, integrate existing designs into systems and the couple them with electronics.

It allows data sharing between system designers, IC designers, process engineers and MEMS experts. Crucially for design integrity and productivity, it enables consistent design checks between these multi-disciplinary teams.
The most popular application areas for the product are in the design of sensing devices, actuators, GPS devices, optical switches and medical analysis components.

EDA Solutions has supplied the L-Edit MEMS layout tool to European customers for the last 4 years and the new agreement with SoftMEMS will enable the company to provide a complete, system-level tool suite including schematic design, finite element analysis, 3-dimensional modelling and visualisation, and 2-dimensional all-angle mask layout.
Existing customers of Tanners L-Edit can upgrade easily to MEMS Pro to develop a more efficient and productive approach to MEMS design.

MEMS Pro is available now priced from S17,000 per seat.
